Thuja Occidentalis Nigra(one green giant on left side)

Thuja occidentalis

Thuja occidentalis 'Nigra' - upright columnar form with dark green Winter foliage, to 20' tall by 4' wide.
Thuja occidentalis 'Techny' - the long-standing traditional cultivar that has dark green foliage year-round, to 16 to 20 feet tall by 6' wide, broadly pyramidal or upright oval in shape.

Thuja occidentalis 'Techny'
Arborvitae, Techny Mission

Broad-based, pyramidal form. Excellent dark green foliage year-round. Use as hedge plant.

These are beautiful and thick trees. They are slower growing than a thuja green giant, which can be an advantage. Depending on how long you plan to stay in your current home, they may never need topping or pruning, and are much denser than thuja green giants.

If object is to make a eight or ten foot tall screen along a driveway, plant at five feet on center. Then square off the sides if desired with hedge clippers, and top them square across as well.
To plant a privacy screen along a road, plant these about seven or eight on center and allow to grow without trimming.

Thuja occidentalis 'Nigra' - Dark Green Arborvitae.

Dark American Arborvitae are very thick, and do not brown over in winter as much as Thuja Green Giants or Cryptomeria do.
